A hidden cove in the Gorges de l'Or
The Plage de la Grotte de Gardanne nestles at Théoule-sur-Mer, framed by tall cliffs that give it the look of a wild cove cut off from the world. The spot takes its name from a natural cave, hollowed out of the rock and gradually filled with water over time.
The water here is particularly clear, almost transparent, and swimming happens in a setting that has stayed unspoiled.
How to get there
To reach the cove, you need to follow a moderately difficult trail starting from the Corniche d'Or, opposite the restaurant at Plage de l'Aiguille. Allow around 10 to 15 minutes on foot.
The path stays walkable without any special gear, but decent shoes are a good idea for the descent over the pebbles.
Naturism and how busy it gets
The site is listed as a spot where naturism is allowed, but nudist practice there remains poorly documented in reality. Attendance is moderate, especially outside the peak summer season, which makes it a fairly quiet spot for those seeking isolation more than buzz.
