A beach between sand and mussel poles

South of Quend-Plage, this stretch of the Picardy coastline takes its name from the bouchots, those rows of wooden stakes planted in the sand for mussel farming. The naturist zone starts near a blockhaus and stretches toward these stakes, in line with the great Marquenterre estate to the north.

The landscape is the classic Picardy coast: space, wind, and that line of bouchots marking the southern edge of the beach. The spot is also popular for kite flying, a very common activity in this area.

Access and conditions

You get there freely, no opening hours, no entry ticket: it's free. Count on about 800 meters on foot from the small village of Quend-Plage, taking the central path that starts from the water sports center, south of the resort, walking toward Marquenterre.

Naturism has been tolerated here since June 2019, following a ruling that came out in favor of the practice on this section of beach. This status, now settled, builds on an active recognition from associations dating back to November 2017.

Who comes here

Here you mostly find naturists and couples, sometimes a few families. Kite flyers also share the space, without any friction between the different uses: the beach is spacious enough for everyone to find their spot and a bit of privacy if they want it.

What visitors remember

What comes up often in feedback is the sheer size of the place: enough room to settle in without feeling cramped, and the option to wander off a bit for more peace and quiet. The bouchot mussel farming, visible right next door, is also part of the scenery and intrigues some walkers.

The official recognition by the town in 2019 clearly reassured the regulars, who describe a mixed crowd but no tension between naturists and other beachgoers. The status is now considered settled, which explains the steady attendance, especially in good weather.
