A wild beach at the end of the dunes
La Plage Naturiste de Berck, also known as Les Sables d'Opale, is located at the end of Chemin des Anglais, in Pas-de-Calais. This isn't a beach you stumble upon by chance: you have to walk about 600 meters from the main car park to reach it, along a clearly marked path through the dunes.
That little effort to get there is part of its charm. You arrive on a long stretch of shore, between fine sand and patches of pebbles, framed by fairly high dunes that cut the beach off from the rest of the world. The spot is officially recognized as a naturist beach, which changes everything in terms of peace and quiet.
Parking and settling in
There are two parking options: a free section and a paid one, depending on where you park near Chemin des Anglais. On site, you'll find showers, toilets and even restaurants, which is fairly rare for such a wild naturist beach.
Wheelchair access is provided, a point that comes up often in positive reviews. Dogs are welcome and so are barbecues, two details that matter to regulars who come to spend the whole day rather than just an hour of sunbathing.
Tides and swimming, stay alert
Swimming isn't officially supervised or authorized as such: you swim at your own risk. And the tides completely change the game here.
At high tide, the beach becomes very narrow, sometimes to the point of trapping swimmers against the dunes. At low tide, it's the opposite: you sometimes have to walk 500 meters to reach the water. So it's best to know the tide schedule before you arrive if you're planning to swim.
Atmosphere and vigilance
Visitors happily praise the amount of space and the wild character of the place, far from the bustle of the coast's typical beaches. That's also what makes it a spot recommended for beginner or occasional naturists, who find an accessible setting here without being overcrowded.
On the other hand, several reviews mention lone voyeurs lurking in the dunes, behavior that's off putting for couples and naturists who've simply come to enjoy the sand. It's worth knowing before you settle down too far from the main path, especially if you're looking for a discreet spot for two.
