A naturist campsite tucked away in the forest
Mas de la Balma occupies a 63 hectare estate of mixed forest, up in the hills of Montbolo, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The camping area itself covers just 3 hectares, sitting at 350 meters altitude, which sets the tone right away: here you come for nature, not for wall to wall entertainment.
The grounds have 50 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, plus cabins and chalets for those who'd rather not pitch anything at all. Dedicated spots welcome large motorhomes (by reservation) and youth groups, making it a place that knows how to host a range of visitors without losing its family feel.
Swimming and life on site
Swimming happens right in nature, in waterfall pools and a natural pool fed by the river. It's one of the site's strong points according to regulars: no big chlorinated pool, just lively water and a wooded setting that's a nice change from standard campsites.
A bar with terrace and a small camping shop round out the amenities, and free wifi covers the whole site. The sanitary facilities and showers are described as well kept, a detail that comes up often in visitor reviews.
Marked hiking trails set off directly from the estate, plenty to fill the days between swims. And regularly, communal meals bring campers together around a paella or Catalan specialties, a convivial moment that seems to matter to the spirit of the place.
