A beach tucked into the forest

La Grande Pointe sits between the Sauveterre and Les Granges beaches, in Les Sables-d'Olonne, on a stretch of sand about 600 metres long. Its classification as a zone where nudism is tolerated means clothing is optional there, without this being an official regulated naturist beach status.

The Olonne state forest borders the site directly, which gives the place a wooded and fairly wild setting, far from the bustle of the more crowded beaches in the town centre.

How to get there

Two paths lead to the naturist area. The first goes through the state forest itself, the second starts from the Sauveterre car park and requires a walk of about 800 metres along the beach.

The area is roughly 700 metres north of the Sauveterre lifeguard station. There's no direct car access to the site, which naturally filters the number of visitors.

What to know before you go

The key point to know before settling in: swimming is forbidden in this area, as the signs on site indicate. So you can enjoy the sand, the sun and the setting, but you can't legally dive into the water.

This detail inevitably changes how people use the place. Some come anyway for the walk, the lazing about or the calm of the dunes, others regret not being able to swim when the sea is right there.

The atmosphere on site

The site mainly attracts regular naturists and couples looking for calm, away from the family beaches in the town centre. The double access option, through the forest or via Sauveterre, gives some flexibility depending on where you park.

Vendée beach guides and tourist offices regularly mention this spot, which makes it a well known place rather than a confidential address. The preserved setting of the Olonne forest remains the point that comes up most often in feedback about this beach.
