Grève du Bau Rouge

Overview
The Grève du Bau Rouge is the only naturist beach in Carqueiranne, officially authorized since June 1977. It stretches over about 200 meters, between Carqueiranne and Le Pradet, west of the resort. The setting is unusual: big smooth rock formations and pebbles make up an almost lunar landscape, wild and mineral.

The waters here are translucent, typical of this stretch of the Mediterranean between Toulon and Hyères. Along with the Pradet beach, it's the only spot in the area where you can undress without any hassle.

Access
You get there by leaving your car at the free parking lot near the Mine du Cap Garonne, then following the chemin du Baou Rouge on foot toward Carqueiranne. No direct car access to the shore, you have to walk a bit, which already filters out the merely curious.

Atmosphere
The beach draws a crowd of regular naturists, couples and a fairly present gay clientele too. Reports describe a welcoming vibe and a well established tolerance, with no judgment on who settles down on the rocks.

Attendance stays steady without ever feeling crowded, unlike some better known beaches along the Var coast. The striking scenery plays a big part in that, many come as much for the setting as for the naturist practice itself.

On site
The ground of smooth rocks and pebbles calls for sandals or flip flops, walking barefoot isn't the most comfortable option here. No facilities are reported on the beach itself, no snack bar, no shower, just the free parking lot up the path.
