A beach apart in the Lorient area
In Ploemeur, the Kaolins beach is the only one in the area where naturism is officially permitted. A municipal decree from July 2017 formalised the practice across the entire stretch of sand, which runs for about 800 metres along the coastline, near Fort-Bloqué.
One thing to note though: the authorisation only covers the beach itself. The nearby dunes, classified as Natura 2000, remain off limits outside the marked paths, as do the rocky areas.
Access and parking
You get there via the D152, right next to the Ploemeur golf course. Two free car parks lead down to the shore: a large one on the golf course side, and a smaller one at the northern end of the beach. Several paths then connect the parking areas to the sand.
The beach is freely accessible year round. In summer, it's supervised from 1pm to 7pm. Outside that window, a few incidents have been reported, so it's worth staying alert when the lifeguards aren't around.
Atmosphere and cohabitation
What stands out here is the easy coexistence between naturists and swimsuit-wearing holidaymakers. The beach keeps its well established naturist reputation, but reviews often mention a growing textile presence depending on the day and season. The overall atmosphere is consistently described as calm, with no tension between the two crowds.
The natural setting plays a big part in this peaceful vibe: unspoiled coastline, protected dunes, open views over the ocean. Reviews regularly highlight the site's environmental quality, a point that seems to matter just as much as the naturism itself.
