A cove you have to earn

You don't just stumble onto the naturist cove of Stang Nu, you first have to board the Compagnie Océane or Escal'Ouest ferry from Lorient to reach the island of Groix. Once there, the road from Mez Porh Mélite leads to a staircase that goes down to the cove.

This maritime detour naturally filters out casual visitors, the beach stays sparsely attended even at the height of season. No crowds here, more like access reserved for those who took the time to make the trip.

The setting

The sand is fine at the top of the beach, coarser near the water, and rock formations enclose a natural pool that shelters swimmers from the currents. The due east orientation suits morning swims best, since the sun beats down hard in the afternoon with not a tree in sight for shade.

The low cliffs framing the cove erode a little more with each winter, giving the landscape a look that's more raw than pretty. That roughness is part of the place's charm too, isolated and intimate, far from the developed beaches on the rest of the island.

Atmosphere and crowd

Here you'll find regular naturists, mostly couples, along with a few textile visitors simply enjoying the calm of the place. Nudity is welcomed without being required, everyone finds their spot without judgment or lingering stares.

The sheltered rocky pool reassures families with children, the water stays calm here even when the open sea gets rough. Dogs are tolerated and barbecues happen on the sand without any fuss, in an atmosphere that stays easygoing.
