A reference of Breton naturism

Kerminihy is a bit like the grand dame of Brittany's naturist beaches. Its official status dates back to 1975, by prefectural order, which makes it an old and well established site in the local landscape. It stretches south of the mouth of the Etel river, in Erdeven, in the Morbihan.

Depending on the source, the beach is between 1.5 and 2 kilometres long. Suffice to say there's plenty of room, even on busy days. The sand is pinkish, coarse grained, and the setting stays wild: dunes, low vegetation, no heavy development to spoil the site.

Swimming and caution

The water is considered good by regulars, but the proximity of the Etel estuary changes things: currents can be strong in places. For children and less confident swimmers, it's best to stay alert and favour the areas where the current is less noticeable.

Access and organisation

You can get there easily via Rue du Stade in Erdeven, then the road to Kerminihy. The car park is large and free, which isn't so common on the big naturist beaches along the coast. The naturist zone is clearly signposted and separated from the textile section by wooden fences, the famous ganivelles: everyone finds their spot without ambiguity, and the two crowds are said to coexist very well.

About one kilometre away, in the town of Belz, you'll find the CNBS naturist campsite (Camping Naturisme Bretagne Sud), a handy option for anyone who wants to extend their stay on site rather than heading back each day.

The feedback circulating on naturist sites is very positive: Kerminihy is regularly cited as the most important naturist beach in Brittany, appreciated for its space, its wild side and its family atmosphere rather than a party one. Naturist families in particular gather there, and the overall atmosphere is described as calm, far from the exhibitionist spirit that some sometimes fear on this type of site.

If you're looking for a large Breton naturist beach, open all year round and with no entrance fee, with real preserved nature character, Kerminihy ticks pretty much every box. Just keep an eye on the currents near the estuary if you're coming with children.
