A cove between two headlands

Choiseau beach slips in between La Plaine-sur-Mer and Préfailles, on this wild coastline of the Guérande peninsula. Forget the crowded stretches of sand: here you'll find a cove of 200 to 400 meters, a mix of sand and rocks, framed by signs that officially mark out the naturist zone, between the Goths harbor and Portmain.

Naturism has been authorized here by municipal decree since June 5, 2002. This isn't some unofficial or grudgingly tolerated status: the town set the framework, and you can feel it in the atmosphere, which stays peaceful and free of tension.

How to get there

No road leads straight to it. You park in a lot, then walk about 500 meters through the Choiseau valley to reach the shore. Hiking enthusiasts can also reach it via the GR8 coastal path, which runs along this whole stretch of coastline.

This walk-in access, with no cars parking right on the sand, is clearly part of the place's charm. It also filters the crowd: you won't find the summer masses of Brittany here, more regulars and couples looking for calm.

Atmosphere and crowd

The beach draws a mix of regular naturists, couples and curious walkers following the coastal path without necessarily seeking out the nudist option. The crowd stays family-friendly and relaxed, far from the buzz you'd find at better known spots like Pen Bron, further north.

This still-preserved, almost secret side comes up often in regulars' feedback. People come here as much for nature as for bodily freedom: cliffs, low vegetation, the sound of waves against the rocks.

What to watch out for

At low tide, rocks surface and make swimming and moving around riskier: falls, cuts, feet slipping on wet surfaces covered in seaweed. This isn't a minor detail, several reviews stress this exact point before venturing into the water.

So it's best to check tide times before heading down, especially if you're planning to swim rather than just sunbathe. Access remains possible year round, free of charge, with no facilities on site: no showers, no restrooms, you come fully self sufficient.
