A cove at the foot of the Genoese tower

Capitello beach nestles between Ajaccio and Porticcio, in the town of Grosseto-Prugna. It's easy to spot thanks to the Genoese tower that overlooks it, a landmark you can even see from out at sea.

Sand mingles here with rock formations that carve the beach into several small coves. This uneven terrain creates fairly intimate corners, far from the full exposure of a classic beach.

Where to go nude

Naturism is tolerated on the southern part of the beach, particularly at the foot of the Genoese tower. That's where the regulars gather, away from the rest of the swimmers.

The rocks separating the various inlets help preserve that discretion. Everyone finds a spot for their towel fairly easily without being crammed against the neighbors.

Atmosphere and crowd

The spot draws naturists and couples, but also a fairly noticeable gay crowd along this stretch of coast. Reports describe a calm atmosphere, with no entertainment or particular supervision.

Outside the summer season, attendance drops noticeably and the beach becomes even quieter. In high season, the little coves fill up more but stay less crowded than the better known beaches nearby.

Access and parking

You reach Capitello beach from the paillotte's parking lot, then by walking along the shore toward the tower. The water stays clear and the rocks give the site a still fairly wild look, without heavy development.

No first aid post or shops are mentioned on site, other than the paillotte near the parking lot. So plan on bringing something to drink and sun protection before you settle in.
