A beach at the gates of Ajaccio
Campo Dell'Oro, which regulars also call plage du Ricanto or Tahiti, stretches for about a kilometer right at the edge of town. It sits next to Ajaccio airport, which means the occasional plane passing overhead, a detail some visitors mention without it really spoiling the moment.
The beach splits into two very distinct moods. On one side, the textile stretch with its full range of services, on the other, at the far end, the naturist zone tucked between the runway and the Genoese tower of Capitello, an easy landmark to spot once you're there.
The naturist zone
Nude sunbathing here is nothing new: the zone has been popular with naturists for several decades, making it a well established spot along the Ajaccio coast. It's also known for being gay-friendly, something many appreciate in a town where naturist spaces aren't exactly common.
Those looking for a totally isolated spot might be surprised: the naturist zone stays close to town and to the textile beach, less remote than some of Corsica's wilder coves. But that's also what makes it easy to reach, no endless walk or tricky path involved.
Services and access
Access is via route de Campo Dell'Oro, with free parking right nearby. The beach is free, has fine sand, and is monitored during summer season.
On the equipment side, you'll find showers, toilets, restaurants, pedal boat rental and the option to try water sports on the textile side. An access point for people with reduced mobility has been set up, with a mat that makes it easier to reach the sand.
Atmosphere and crowd
Here you'll find couples and families on the textile side, and naturists from all walks of life in the dedicated zone. The atmosphere is fairly calm without being a secret spot, the town's closeness bringing a steady flow of visitors in season.
The view over Ajaccio and its bay remains one of the place's great assets, often mentioned by those who come back year after year. It's a practical beach for a nature getaway without really leaving town, more accessible than isolated, and that's exactly what draws so many people to it.
