Camping la Plage des Templiers

A naturist campsite at the heart of the gorges

La Plage des Templiers is the only naturist campsite set deep in the Gorges de l'Ardèche, on a site classified as a nature reserve. It has existed since 1974 and has never tried to grow bigger: you come here for the wild scenery, not for organized entertainment.

The grounds open onto a huge private beach along the river, facing cliffs and caves. The setting has stayed untouched, with no modern buildings visible from the camp.

An access you have to earn

You don't drive into La Plage des Templiers: vans, motorhomes and caravans are forbidden, and the only way in is on foot, along a rugged trail from the gorges' tourist road.

For luggage, a winch runs during the season: 9am to 1pm then 3:30pm to 6pm until August 22, then 9am to 11am and 4pm to 6pm until closing. It's worth planning your arrival time around these slots.

Accommodations and services

The campsite has 66 pitches, split between classic tents, bungalows, lodges and eco-lodges. On site, a restaurant, a bar and a small grocery store mean you don't have to climb back up the trail for every errand.

As for activities, there's plenty to fill your days without leaving the site: pétanque, volleyball, table tennis, foosball, yoga sessions and a play area for children.

A clientele in search of calm

The campsite mostly draws naturist couples and families looking for complete isolation, far from mass tourism. Reviews often mention that feeling of being cut off from the world, a rare kind of silence for a site so well known in the Gorges de l'Ardèche.

The yoga sessions and sports activities are well liked, as is the absence of noisy entertainment at night. Anyone hoping for nightlife or modern amenities won't find it here, but that was never the promise of this place.

The campsite is open from June 6 to September 6. It's located at the hamlet of Le Bas-Lavis, on the gorges' tourist road, in Saint-Remèze, Ardèche.
