Orgy
An orgy is a sexual encounter involving more than two people, normally within ground rules negotiated and agreed to by everyone taking part.
Once there are more than two of you, you're heading into orgy territory: three people, four, more, gathered to seek pleasure together. The word has a whiff of Roman decadence about it, but it covers very different realities. An impromptu night for three lovers has little in common with a private party for twelve or an evening at a swingers' club.
What makes group sex different is that it mixes up the roles. You touch and you're touched, but you also watch and let yourself be watched: voyeurism and exhibitionism often count as much as the caresses. Many couples say, in fact, that the most exciting part isn't contact with a stranger, but seeing their partner desired by others.
In practice, the real work happens beforehand. Regulars lay down clear ground rules: who can do what, with whom, how far (kissing on the mouth or not, penetration or not, always in the same room or not), plus a simple signal to call a stop, no questions asked. Condoms change with every partner, lube stays within reach, and nobody is obliged to take part: staying a spectator or getting dressed again after ten minutes is an option that must remain open at all times.
Heavy drinking is the worst ally of this kind of evening: it blurs limits and consent. Health-wise, stick to the basics: protection every time, regular STI testing, and a visit to the doctor at the slightest doubt or symptom. The next day counts too: setting aside a moment to talk it over as a couple keeps jealousy or unease from settling in silently.
The orgy often gets mixed up with several more precise neighbours. A threesome stops at three people, a foursome brings two couples together, swinging involves swapping partners between couples, often in a club, and candaulism means offering your partner to someone else's gaze or caresses. The word bacchanal, more literary, suggests larger groups and a party atmosphere. All these words have one thing in common: without clear consent from everyone, which can be withdrawn at any moment, it isn't play, it's assault.
