Ejaculation
Ejaculation is the expulsion, often in spurts, of a fluid through the genital tract at the moment of orgasm or just before, in men and, more rarely, in women.
Ejaculation refers to the expulsion of a fluid through the genital tract, usually in spurts, under the effect of sexual stimulation taken far enough. In men, that fluid is semen. In women, it comes out through the urethra and its origin is still debated: a small part comes from the Skene's glands, located on either side of it, and the most abundant spurts would come mainly from the bladder.
We spontaneously associate it with orgasm, and the two often arrive together, but they are two distinct phenomena. You can come without ejaculating, and ejaculate without much pleasure.
In men, it plays out in two very close stages. First the emission: the vas deferens, the seminal vesicles and the prostate contract and push the semen towards the base of the urethra, which creates a very localised tension in the perineum.
This is the famous point of no return, that second when you know nothing can stop the movement anymore. Then comes the expulsion: the muscles around the base of the penis and the anus contract in rhythmic waves and the semen exits through the urethral meatus, along with the sensations of orgasm.
In women, ejaculation sometimes accompanies orgasm, often after firm stimulation of the G-spot, the urethral area or the clitoris, alone or combined. The volume varies enormously from one person to the next and from one time to the next, from a few barely noticeable drops to more abundant spurts, sometimes repeated. Many women never ejaculate, others discover it after years of sexual life, generally when relaxation and trust are there, because the initial sensation first feels like an urge to pee that you have to agree to let pass.
So, things not to confuse: ejaculation and orgasm, female ejaculation and simple lubrication (far more abundant in some women), the squirter and any kind of proof of successful pleasure. None of this can be commanded and nothing is missing for those who never experience this phenomenon. That said, if ejaculation becomes painful, far too quick, impossible or absent when it used to happen before, a doctor or a sex therapist is the right person to talk to.
