A Norman libertine sauna
Venus Sauna has settled in at 214 rue Verte, in Hérouville-Saint-Clair, inside the former walls of the nightclub La Mare aux diables. The venue left its historic address on avenue de Tourville in Caen in 2025 for this new location, which its manager Dominique Madelaine considers calmer and more zen than the previous one.
Open since 2015, this club runs like a classic libertine sauna: people come here for the sauna, the hammam, the spa, the bubble bath and the cuddle lounges, with a bar and a small outdoor terrace furnished with loungers and cushions.
Two crowds, two schedules
Daytime is reserved for men alone, during dedicated afternoon slots. In the evening, it's mixed: couples and singles cross paths in the same spaces, sauna, hammam and cuddle lounges included.
Themed nights are organized from time to time, depending on the venue's current happenings. A love shop is built right in on the ground floor, handy for rounding off an evening without having to step back outside.
Opening hours and access
The club is open every day, with hours that change depending on the day of the week:
- Monday: 1pm-7pm
- Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 1pm-1am
- Wednesday: 1pm-8pm
- Saturday: 2pm-2am
- Sunday: 2pm-8pm
Access is reserved for adults aged 18 and over. A free private parking lot is available, a real plus in an area where parking isn't always easy. Entry prices aren't publicly displayed, but a discovery offer at 10 euros was rolled out for the first fifteen days of July.
What the regulars say
Feedback on Venus Sauna is mixed. The terrace and the bar keep coming up as strong points, especially when the weather allows people to enjoy them.
On the other hand, several visitors point out how cramped the place is: the jacuzzi only fits five people max, and the love shop on the ground floor eats up even more of the available space. The lack of a bar in the main libertine zone and the music-free atmosphere also come up in criticisms, with some finding the mood too quiet for real libertine exchanges.
Despite these space limitations, the place is still considered enjoyable overall, especially during periods when entry is offered at a reduced price.
