A discreet beach on the banks of the Vilaine

Camaret beach, up in Haut de Pénestin, is nothing like a crowded seaside resort. It's a stretch of sand and pebbles set along the Vilaine, fairly quiet, favored by those looking for calm rather than buzz.

People come here for the surrounding nature and for the mussel farming that's plain to see: the bouchots (mussel poles) are part of the scenery, worth knowing before picturing a beach untouched by any human activity.

Where to settle in and how to get there

Naturism is tolerated on the right side of the beach, not across the whole stretch. Regulars naturally set up there, while the left side stays more mixed, with a few swimmers in swimwear.

To get there, take the Route du Halguen then the Allée de Camaret. Parking is free, which isn't so common for this kind of spot, and dogs are welcome without any issue.

A modest crowd

Here you'll mostly find regular naturists and couples, along with a few clothed beachgoers sharing the space without any particular fuss. The mood stays discreet, far from the region's big, busy naturist beaches.

That low-key side is exactly what people like about it: no crowds, no noise, a beach that's easy to make your own even in high season.

What to know before you swim

As for facilities, expect nothing: no lifeguards, no first-aid post, no showers. You come here fully self-sufficient.

Swimming also calls for a bit of caution at low tide: the bottom turns muddy and silty, which can surprise those expecting fine sand right up to the water.

A status that stays hazy

The tolerance shown toward naturism is nothing official. A municipal police intervention in 2018 was a reminder that the site's legal status remains uncertain, despite long-established use by local naturists.

Nothing suggests the situation has changed since, the beach continues to be used as such, but without any clear regulatory framework.
