A hidden cove

Dotchot is one of the two naturist beaches on Belle-Ile-en-Mer, tucked into the Herlin cove. There's no proper seafront here: high cliffs wrap around a small stretch of fine sand, with caves and rocks that offer natural shade during the hottest hours.

Its due south orientation gives it water and sand noticeably warmer than the island's other beaches. The landscape, rocky and wild, draws those looking for a secluded spot rather than a typical family beach.

A sporty way in

You don't end up at Dotchot by accident. The path runs down a steep slope with tricky sections, made passable thanks to ropes fixed into the cliffside (there are currently three of them, installed to counter the site's erosion).

Best to arrive by bike, scooter or on foot, and bring sturdy shoes for the descent. The parking area is a grassy field, free of charge, near the hamlet of Bordrouhant, a few minutes' walk from the beach.

Atmosphere and crowd

The tricky access is exactly what gives the place its charm: few people venture here, and those who make the effort find a quiet beach, almost secret. Mostly naturist couples, with a few textile bathers who mix in without any fuss.

Feedback often mentions that sense of intimacy and untouched nature, far from the crowded beaches of the island in high season. It's also what makes it popular with hikers who push on this far just for the beauty of the spot, naturist or not.

Practical info

Access is free, with no set hours or entry fee. No facilities on site: no first aid post, no shops, no restrooms. The nearest restaurant is quite a distance away, so bring water and something to snack on.
