A wild and protected site

L'Espiguette is the only official naturist beach in the Gard department. It stretches over about 10 kilometres of fine sand, right in the middle of a nature reserve classified Natura 2000. The site also holds the blue flag, which says a lot about the water quality and the upkeep of the place.

No concrete, no rows of sun loungers here: dunes dominate, the vegetation stays wild, and the infrastructure is limited to toilets open during the season. It's precisely this bare simplicity that appeals to regulars, who come looking for a natural setting rather than a developed beach.

Where naturism begins

The naturist zone isn't right after the car park. You need to take a wooden walkway about 300 metres long that crosses the dunes to reach it. Once on the other side, a 450 metre stretch is managed by the Helio Club association and reserved for naturist practice.

Beyond this zone, you'll find more informal sectors, frequented in particular by a gay-friendly crowd. The whole area stays open from April 15th to September 30th, outside this period naturist attendance isn't organised.

Access and parking

The Les Baronnets car park is the most direct entrance. It's paid from April to September, between 6 and 7 euros for the day, and becomes free again from 6:30pm. For those who want to avoid the expense, access on foot or by bike is free via the Via Rhôna, allowing about 20 minutes of walking from the town. A nearby campsite also offers free shuttles in summer, a handy option for those staying close by without a car.

Feedback emphasises the space available and the unspoiled character of this long beach, rare on this scale along the coastline. The lack of heavy amenities is seen as a real plus by those seeking authenticity rather than classic seaside comfort.

Some visitors regret that the actual naturist zone stays limited in length and that you have to walk a bit to reach it. The overall atmosphere is described as family-friendly and relaxed, far from any spirit of performance or showing off.
