A setting at the edge of the world
At the Pointe du Corsen, right at the western tip of Finistère, Plage des Charrettes breaks into three coves lined with cliffs. The sand there is fine and very white, and on clear days you can clearly see the islands of Molène and Ouessant standing out on the horizon.
The west northwest exposure creates a fairly noticeable swell at high tide, worth keeping in mind if you're planning a quiet swim. The water stays cool even in summer, that's the one real drawback that keeps coming up in regulars' feedback.
Where to get naked
Naturism is only tolerated on the northern part of the beach, between the Pointe du Corsen and Ruscumunoc. The rest of the site works on a classic basis, so it's best to scope out the area before laying down your towel.
The small coves carved into the cliff offer sheltered spots, appreciated for the privacy they provide despite the total absence of amenities.
Access and crowd
You get down via a staircase of several dozen meters, which naturally filters out the crowds: no mobs here, even in peak season. This effort on arrival (and on the way back) largely explains the calm that reigns over the site.
The beach attracts a mixed crowd of naturists, couples and hikers taking advantage of the coastal path. It's also known as a meeting spot for gay men, making it one of the recognized addresses of its kind in Finistère.
Sand surface only, no services on site: you come here for the raw scenery and the quiet, not for comfort.
