A raw setting
The Plage des Vaches Noires stretches out at the foot of the cliffs of the same name, at the spot known as le Chaos, in the town of Auberville. The ground alternates between sand and pebbles, framed by clay and chalk cliffs that give the site its geological fame (fossils can still be found here). No facilities on site: no showers, no lifeguard post, no shops.
An access that discourages
You can climb down from above, at Auberville, via a steep and rugged path. The other option is to walk along the beach at low tide from Villers toward Houlgate, which means keeping an eye on tide times. Regular cliff collapses make the area unstable in places.
Discreet naturism
Attendance stays low, with just a few naturists. No official recognition governs the practice, it's simply tolerated on this isolated stretch of coastline. Swimming isn't recommended, as the currents and the instability of the site make the water unsafe. People come here more for walking and quiet than for a swim.
