A wild beach in Gruissan

Plage des Mouettes stretches over 3 km, between Gruissan and the Aude coastline, in a setting left entirely natural: no permanent facilities, no concrete, just sand, dunes and sea. It's this lack of development that gives the place its charm and explains why naturists have gathered here for a long time.

The area where nudity is practiced sits in the middle of the beach, over about 500 meters. At both ends, you'll find textile zones, which allows for a fairly peaceful coexistence between the two crowds throughout the day.

Access and crowds

Access to the beach is free and open, with no barrier or particular checkpoint. You get there from Gruissan by following signs for the beaches, on foot or by car depending on where you park.

In summer, the place draws crowds, sometimes big ones, especially on the naturist side where numbers can climb on the hottest days. Regulars recommend arriving early in the morning to enjoy the calm before the beach fills up.

The crowd is varied: regular naturists, couples, but also families who come to enjoy the setting without worrying about other people's stares. The overall vibe is described as family friendly and relaxed, far from the sometimes tenser feel of certain urban naturist beaches.

Some of the more secluded spots on the beach are also used for cruising, but this stays contained and doesn't affect the general atmosphere of the place, which remains above all a spot to unwind by the sea.

The main downside is the crowds in high season, especially in July and August, when finding a quiet spot on the naturist stretch sometimes means walking a bit further. Out of season, though, the place regains all its calm and appeals to those who are after peace and quiet above all.
